#I want to talk about the part of this scene that nobody’s talking about #because everyone focuses on elena and damon #but it’s also important to talk about matt’s role here #and how he’s abused by damon just to preserve elena’s reputation and save her FEELINGS #and I don’t use the word abused lightly #matt had every right to be horrified and scared in this scene #and that’s not blaming elena that’s just giving matt the right to be free to react to being attacked #look at how he’s looking at elena #horrified and feeling things he’s never felt for her before when he’s never seen her as anything but perfect #look at how he reacts when damon steps up to him #he’s TERRIFIED #and that is an emotion HE HAS THE RIGHT TO HAVE #and then damon robs him of it to protect elena’s reputation #he invades matt’s mind and mind-rapes him and robs him of his free will and autonomy #and that #is #ABUSE #matt didn’t have to forget what was done to him now that he knows all about vampires #damon just did it because elena didn’t want matt to LOOK at her that way #elena’s hurt feelings took precedence over matt’s safety and free will #I get angry at the way fandom fangirls over how damon helps elena #and completely forgets how OTHER INNOCENT PEOPLE end up as COLLATERAL DAMAGE as a result #other people are more than just props in Elena’s life #appreciate what damon does for elena yes #but remember that elena is not the only person in the universe
